Enable phishing protection in Windows 11

If you log in with a password in Windows 11, you can enable phishing protection. This anti-phishing protection protects your Windows 11 computer against three different types of phishing.

If you enter the password you use to log in to Windows 11 on a website whose Defender SmartScreen suspect that it is dangerous, you will receive a message. You will also receive a notification if you use the Windows 11 login password in a potentially dangerous app or reuse it too often. If you save the password in a text document, Word document or Excel document, you will also receive a notification of unsafe storage via phishing protection.

Currently, phishing protection only works for the login password of your Windows 11 computer. This applies to the normal login password and to your password Microsoft account.

You can enable or disable phishing protection on your Windows 11 PC as follows.

Enable phishing protection in Windows 11

Right-click on the Start button. Then click on Settings in the menu. On the left side, first click on “Privacy and Security” and then on “Windows Security”.

Click the “Open Windows Security” button.

Open Windows security

Then click on “App & browser management” and then on “Reputation security settings”.

Reputation-based security settings

Then enable “Protection against phishing”. You can now enable the following features that will alert you via a notification.

  • Warn about malicious apps and sites.
  • Warn about password reuse.
  • Warn about unsafe password storage.
