Face ID does not work with sunglasses

Face ID does not work with sunglasses

The weather is warm again and we wear sunglasses against the bright sun. A disadvantage is that with some sunglasses, mainly Ray-Ban, Face ID no longer works.

The reason for this is that the infrared sensor that scans your eyes cannot properly determine your face because the sunglasses block the sensor. When the “Attention Required for Face ID” feature is enabled, an iPhone or iPad will have difficulty determining when you are looking at your iPhone or iPad and will not unlock.

The solution is to disable the “attention required for Face ID” function if this bothers you. However, there are some disadvantages. This makes it possible for the iPhone or iPad to unlock when someone is just looking at the iPhone or iPad. This is a security risk.

So it's important to make a trade-off between convenience and security when determining the right settings for Face ID on your iPhone. If you prefer a higher level of security, it is recommended to leave “Require attention for Face ID” enabled. However, if you often have trouble unlocking your iPhone or iPad while wearing sunglasses, disabling this feature may help, but at the expense of security.
