View configured update policies in Windows 11

A Windows 11 computer can be used for multiple purposes. For example, a Windows 11 computer can be used from home PC, work PC, kiosk, school PC and so on.

Various policy settings are available to manage Windows 11. An administrator can apply a policy to different components in Windows 11, such as: Windows update. A policy applied to Windows update allows an administrator to manage Windows update from a server or locally.

If there is a policy applied to Windows update, then I had to go into previous Windows versions de use group policy editor to identify whether and which policy has been applied. This has changed in Windows 11.

View configured update policies in Windows 11

Right-click on the Start button. Then click on Settings in the menu. On the left, first click on Windows update and then on Advanced options.

Then click on “View configured update policy” at the bottom of the Additional options.

If an update policy is active you will see “Policies set on your device”. Below that you will see the specific policy that is active with source and type.

Some settings and controls may not be available to you if your organization has set policies to manage updates or if you participates in the Windows Insider program.

Please note that you cannot always adjust an update policy yourself. If you find an update policy and your PC is part of a corporate network or work environment, you should contact a system or network administrator if you have any questions.
