A font is an important part of an operating system. Not only does a font personalize the operating system, but a specific font also makes it easier for people to read text.
In macOS you can easily adjust the font. You can adjust the global font, but you can also set the font for a number of applications on Mac per application.
Change the Font and Font Size in macOS
Change font size
To change the font size, you can start by adjusting the screen resolution on your Mac. macOS offers a number of preset screen resolutions, each of which increases or decreases the font size.
In the top left corner click on it Appleicon (). In the menu, click System Preferences. Then click on Displays.
You can adjust the resolution for your screen here. Display stand is suitable for most users. However, if you prefer a smaller or larger font, you can adjust the font and therefore the screen resolution with the option: Scaled.
Click Scaled and choose the best font size from the “Larger text” or “More space” options.
Change font menu bar
In macOS you will find a menu bar at the top. You can also adjust the font size of the text in the menu. To do this, you must log out and log in to macOS after adjusting the size of the font in the menu bar.
In the top left corner click on it Appleicon (). In the menu, click System Preferences. Then click on Accessibility.
Click on Display in the menu on the left. Here you will see the option: Menu bar size. You can change the font size to Standard or Large. After restarting macOS you will see the desired font size.
Adjust font and font size in Mail app
You can also adjust the font or font size in specific apps. This also applies to the Mail app in macOS.
Open the mail app. Click on Mail in the menu and then click on Preferences. Then click on the tab: Font and color.
Under Message Font, click Select and change the font type or font size.
Adjust font and font size in Messages app
Open the messaging app. In the menu, click on Messages. Then click on Preferences.
Click on the tab: General. At the bottom you can change the text size by dragging the bar to the left or right. This changes the text size in the Messages app.
Adjust font size in Safari
There are two ways to adjust the font size in Safari. You can zoom in on the page with function keys or you can set a text size per website.
Enlarge font by zooming in
To enlarge text in Safari, visit the website you want to read with a larger font. You can then use the following function keys.
Press CMD (⌘) and the + key at the same time to zoom in. The font now becomes larger, making it easier to read the text.
Press CMD (⌘) and the – key at the same time to zoom in. The font now becomes smaller, making it easier to read the text.
Press CMD (⌘) and the 0 key at the same time to return to the normal display.
Adjust font size for all websites
To set a certain zoom level by default so that every website displays a larger font, you can set it in the following way.
Open Safari. In the menu, click Safari and then click Preferences. Then click on the tab: Websites. In the left menu click on Zoom level.
At the bottom right you will find the zoom level. If you change this level, all websites you visit will increase by this specific percentage. Please note that this may cause some websites to display differently than originally intended by the designer.
