Add day of the week in the taskbar in Windows 11

day of the week in taskbar in windows 11

By default, Windows 11 only shows the date and time on the taskbar. If you also want to see the day of the week, you can easily change that in Windows.

No matter how you change the format of date, time, and day of the week, they will appear on the taskbar in the lower right corner. It can also appear in apps and documents you create, but not if you overwrite the format in individual programs.

Add day of the week in the taskbar in Windows 11

Right-click on the start button. Click on Settings in the menu. Click on Time and date on the left. Then click on Language & region. At the bottom of related settings, click Language settings for administrators.

Then click on the tab: Notations. Click on “More settings” at the bottom of the window.

country region settings

Click on the tab: Date. Change the short date note to “dddd dM-yyyy”. By default this is “dM-yyyy”. Click apply.

Add day of the week to time and date in the taskbar

You will now immediately see in the taskbar that the current day has been added to the time and date format. You have now successfully added the day format to the taskbar in Windows 11.

  1. Thank you! A clear and well-functioning solution. The 100th example that Microsoft with Windows 11 should be deeply ashamed that this has to be so difficult.

  2. Hallo,
I don't see the problem I have happening. I have nothing at all on the right side of the taskbar (W11) and I would like to see what you show in the last picture in the entry:

Add day of the week in the taskbar in Windows 11.
My right corner of the taskbar is completely empty.
I hope you can help me.
    Yours faithfully,
    Hank.

    1. Hello, then follow the instruction. In the penultimate picture you see the “short date format”. In that field, enter – without quotes – “dddd dM-yyyy”. Then click apply. Do you now see the day and date?
What you can also do is click on the “Initial value” button, see also the penultimate picture.
      Greetings, Stefan

  3. Is it possible to remove the language entry (NLD BEP) in the right corner of the taskbar in W11?
    Thanks for the effort.
    Jeff

    1. Hi Jeff, I think you mean the input language (keyboard layout)? Click Start, click Settings. Then click on Time & language on the left. Then click on Language & region. You will see a language listed under “preferred languages”. Click on the three horizontal dots and click on Language Options. Under keyboards, click on the keyboard layout you want to delete by clicking on the three horizontal dots and then delete.
I'd like to hear if it has been resolved. Greetings, Stefan.

      1. Stefan, I have the same question, but I don't really want to change the Language and Region setting, just remove its display in the taskbar. It is true that for a NLD BEP (Belgian keyboard) the toolbar for this notation covers 2 lines (BEP is displayed under NLD). The same goes for the time/date notation where time is displayed above the date - but I already found the solution for the latter on this page.

        1. Hello, if I understand correctly you want to remove the language input switcher from the overflow menu. This is how it works.

Right-click on the Start button. Click on settings in the menu. Click on Time & language on the left. Then click on “Advanced keyboard settings” and then on Language bar options. Set the “Language bar” option to “hide” and click Apply. In the “Advanced keyboard settings” then enable the option “Use the desktop language bar when it is available”.

The input language option is now no longer visible on the taskbar or the overflow menu (system tray).

          Good luck! Greetings, Stefan

          1. Stefan, thanks for the super fast response. Your instructions did what I wanted to achieve. For the sake of completeness - if other people use this thread - it is necessary to between “Click on Time & language on the left. Then click on “Advanced keyboard settings” and select the “Typing” option; this was correct in your “remove language-input-switcher-from-the-taskbar-in-windows-11” topic.
