Install and manage extensions in Safari for iPhone or iPad

Stefan

Extensions are very useful because they allow you to upgrade your Safari browser and then surf the web using a range of useful tools.

Since the arrival of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 updates, it is now possible to use Safari extensions on iPhone and iPad. For Mac there are an infinite number of extensions that add just as many possibilities to the Safari browser.

The extensions have been around for years for browsers on computers, and with iOS 15 they also come to the iPhone and iPad. Obviously, you don't need to install all of them, but only those extensions that are most useful to you. There are many extensions available, free and paid, that can help everyone.

Install Safari extension

To install extension in Safari on iPhone or iPad, start by opening the Settings. Then navigate to Safari and click on it. In the “General” chapter you will find “Extensions” click on it.

If you had already added extensions, for example through another app, you will see the settings of these extension(s) here. At the very bottom, click on “More extensions”. The AppStore will now open. Here you will see a list of Safari extensions that you can install on an iPad or iPhone.

Download Safari extensions

In any case, whichever way is used, the Safari extensions are presented as normal apps, so the installation process is the same.

Open the tab, read the description and if it seems interesting to you, proceed with the installation by clicking on the “Download” button and authorize (or pay for, if it is not free) the process with a password, fingerprint or facial scan, according to your iPhone or iPad's standard authentication system.

Now that you've installed the extension, that's not all. In fact, extensions are not enabled by default.

At the end of the installation of the extension (or extensions, if you chose more than one) go back to the “Settings” app, under the “Safari > Extensions” section, here you will see the list of all extensions that you downloaded.

Each extension will be disabled by default. So you will have to activate them manually, one by one, by opening the appropriate tab and enabling the first switch at the top right next to the name of the extension.
