Enable or disable file and printer formatting in Windows 11

File and Printer Sharing is a feature in Windows that allows Windows devices to share files, folders, and printers with other computers on a network.

When you enable file and printer sharing in Windows 11, other connected devices on the same network can find and connect to your shared devices.

File and printer sharing are tightly integrated when sharing devices via network discovery.

There are several features available when you enable file and printer sharing.

The first is file sharing. Allows users to share files and folders and make them available to other devices on a network to view, copy or modify them.

Printer sharing will also become available. Allows users to share connected printers and make them available to other devices on a network to view and print documents.

Windows creates a separate network profile for each active network. Users can enable or disable file and printer sharing separately for a private network profile or a public network profile.

  1. Thanks for your answer. I can now see the folders in my windows explorer, but files are not visible. The 'affected' folders cannot be opened.

What could be the cause of this?

    Thanks

  2. Hello Stefan,
I am unable to enable file and printer formatting in Windows 11 with your instructions. Could it be that your screenshots are not from win11 but 10 or 7?
By the way, you give a lot of good tips.

    1. Hello, no these are images from Windows 11. What's going wrong? Can't find the “Control Panel”? Click on the link in the article that says “Open Control Panel”. To help you, I need to know which option is not working, or what may not be found. This should do the trick, I did it too 😉 Greetings, Stefan
