Set up camera (webcam) in Microsoft Edge? This is how!

In Microsoft Edge you can use your webcam. A website can access your webcam and display it in Microsoft Edge. The camera permissions in Edge give a website access to the connected camera on your computer.

Before proceeding, make sure the camera is properly connected to the computer and that the camera is running with the correct drivers.

As the camera on your computer is not connected properly with your computer via USB, for example, then the camera in Microsoft Edge will not work either.

Set up webcam in Microsoft Edge

Around the webcam To open settings in Microsoft Edge, click the Edge menu in the top right corner. In the Edge menu, click Settings.

open microsoft edge menu

In the left menu, click Cookies and site permissions.

Set up webcam in Microsoft Edge

Then click on Camera under site permissions webcam settings in Microsoft Edge.

To choose a webcam to use Microsoft Edge, click “Choose which camera the browser can open” and select the installed webcam connected to your computer.

If you cannot find the webcam in this list, make sure that the camera drivers in Windows are properly installed, that the webcam is turned on, and that the webcam is properly connected to your computer.

  1. Hallo,

I followed all the steps you described to get my webcam working in Edge.
Everything was and is checked as indicated, but on certain sites it worked perfectly until a few days ago and now I always get a message: webcam error, the permissions for webcamming have not been accepted or the webcam setup is not working...

    1. Hello, if the webcam was working until a few days ago, you should check with yourself what has changed. Has new software been installed such as an antivirus or a blocking app, an extension in the Edge browser, have the drivers been updated, have Windows updates been installed? It is not possible for me to assess hardware or software remotely. I don't suspect the problem is in Microsoft Edge. Rather in software or settings of the webcam itself. Good luck! Greetings, Stefan
