If you play a lot of computer games on your computer, then you are probably familiar with “Steam“. Steam offers its own marketplace where you can buy and manage games.
However, if you also play other games that were not purchased via Steam, you can also add them to the games library. This way you can manage all your games from one place.
Keep in mind that there are some disadvantages to adding another game to the Steam library. For example, not all games are optimized for Steam. This means that problems with compatibility and hardware requirements may arise.
Updates and support for games are also arranged for Steam games. Adding another game that was not purchased through Steam may cause problems updating the game.
Finally, Steam offers quality control for their games. All games purchased via Steam are pre-checked against certain standards. Adding other games that may not meet these standards may decrease the overall quality of the games library. This can result in a bad user experience.
Add another game to the Steam library
To get started, open Steam on your computer. Then click on the “Add a game” button at the bottom right.
Optional: Steam won't open?
Then click on “Add a non-steam game” in the menu.
All installed games will be shown in the list. You can select the game and then click “add selected programs” to add it to the Steam library.
If the game is not listed, click “browse” and select the executable file to add the game. To do this, go to the folder where the game is installed and add the “launcher” or file that runs the game directly. Then repeat the above process for each game.
The newly added game is now available in the “library”. Click on it and click “Play” to open the game directly via Steam. By default, no screenshot is added for non-Steam games. Press F12 in-game to add a screenshot for this game to the Steam library.
