A new sidebar has been introduced in Microsoft Edge. The idea of this sidebar is to allow users to more quickly access various Office app shortcuts, search, tools like a clock, calculator, and more.
The disadvantage of the sidebar is that it is enabled by default. Something we know from Microsoft. A section is pushed through for users.
Of course it is possible to disable the sidebar. By disabling this sidebar, you will no longer see this sidebar and the sidebar will no longer appear when you start the Microsoft Edge browser.

Disable sidebar
It is very simple to disable the sidebar, you can do this by clicking on the “hide sidebar” icon at the bottom of the sidebar.
It is also possible via the Microsoft Edge settings. To do this, click on the gear icon. Then navigate down a bit until you see “Show sidebar”. Click the slider to disable the sidebar.
By clicking the slider again you can display the sidebar again. If you also see an Office 365 sidebar then you can use the Also disable Office 365 sidebar.
If it doesn't work now, you can try the following to disable the sidebar.
- Open a Command Prompt as administrator.
- Copy and paste the line below into Command Prompt:
reg.exe add "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Edge" /v HubsSidebarEnabled /t REG_DWORD /d 0 /f
By running this command you can disable the sidebar via the Windows registry.

Hey hello, I came here to the site because I want to get rid of the annoying intrusive sidebar in Edge. Just bought a new laptop, the same one my father already has. However, it doesn't have that sidebar, so I can't get rid of it on my laptop. I don't see a 'remove sidebar' icon from your option 1. And your option 2, to do it via the settings of Edge itself, so via the gear and appearance, does not work either, because there is no option Show sidebar with an on or out of the slider, to drive you crazy 🙂
Hello, the comparison can be made if it is actually the same sidebar (in appearance), the same version of the Edge browser as well as the same Windows version.
1. Make sure Edge is updated with the latest version.
