In the Google Chrome browser you can use keyboard shortcuts just like with other browsers. These keyboard shortcuts will greatly improve and possibly speed up your navigation and general use of Google Chrome. Speeding up requires some time to get used to the key combinations.

Most people use the mouse or finger in Windows to navigate. However, it can be done faster. See this list of keyboard shortcuts, available in Google Chrome for both Windows and macOS.

Google Chrome keyboard shortcuts for Windows

Ctrl + N Opens a new window.
Ctrl + T Opens a new tab.
Ctrl + Shift + N Opens a new window in incognito mode.
Press Ctrl+O and select a file. Opens a file on your computer in Google Chrome.
Press Ctrl and click on a link. Or click on a link with your middle mouse button (or mouse wheel). Opens the link in a new tab in the background.
Press Ctrl+Shift and click on a link. Or press Shift and click on a link with your middle mouse button (or mouse wheel). Opens the link in a new tab and switches to the newly opened tab.
Press Shift and click on a link. Opens the link in a new window.
Ctrl + Shift + T Reopens the last closed tab. Google Chrome remembers the last ten tabs you closed.
Drag a link to a tab. Opens the link in the tab.
Drag a link to an empty area in the tab strip. Opens the link in a new tab.
Drag a tab from the tab strip. Opens the tab in a new window.
Drag a tab from the tab strip into an existing window. Opens the tab in the existing window.
Press Esc while dragging a tab. This will return the tab to its original position.
Ctrl+1 to Ctrl+8 Switches to the tab at the specified position number in the tab strip.
Ctrl + 9 Switches to the last tab.
Ctrl+Tab or Ctrl+Page Down Switches to the next tab.
Ctrl+Shift+Tab or Ctrl+Page Up Switches to the previous tab.
Alt+F4 or Ctrl+Shift+W Close the current window.
Ctrl+W or Ctrl+F4 Close the current tab or pop-up window.
Click on a tab with your middle mouse button (or mouse wheel). Close the corresponding tab.
Right-click the Back or Forward button in the browser toolbar and hold down the mouse button. Displays your browsing history in the tab.
Press Backspace or press Alt and the left arrow at the same time. Goes to the previous page in your browsing history for the tab.
Press Shift+Backspace or press Alt and the right arrow at the same time. Goes to the next page in your browsing history for the tab.
Press Ctrl and click the Back, Forward, or Run button in the toolbar. Or click on one of the buttons with your middle mouse button (or mouse wheel). Opens the button destination in a new tab in the background.
Double-click the empty space in the tab strip. Maximizes or minimizes the window.
Alt+Home Opens your homepage in the current window.

Google Chrome keyboard shortcuts for macOS

⌘-N Opens a new window.
⌘-T Opens a new tab.
⌘-Shift-N Opens a new window in incognito mode.

Click the 'Back' or 'Forward' button in the browser toolbar and hold down the mouse button. Displays your browsing history in the tab.
Press Delete or ⌘-[ Goes to the previous page in your browsing history for the tab.
Press Shift-Delete or ⌘-] Goes to the next page in your browsing history for the tab.
Press Shift and the + key at the top left corner of the window at the same time. Maximizes the window.
⌘-M Minimizes the window.
⌘-H Hides Google Chrome.
⌘-Option-H Hides all other windows.
⌘-Q Close Google Chrome.
