If you use the free version of Outlook, advertisements will be shown at the top of the window for new emails.
Microsoft has two versions of Outlook, for paying customers and for people who want to use Microsoft Outlook for free. To make the free version of Outlook somewhat profitable, Microsoft has chosen to show advertising in the Outlook app for Microsoft 365.
If these Outlook advertisements bother you, you can block them. By blocking the advertisements you cannot remove them completely, but they will no longer be shown. The block in which they are displayed remains active, but turns gray. This is how it works.
Remove advertising in Outlook app
To get started, click on Search in the taskbar. Then search for “notepad”. Right-click on notepad and click “Run as administrator”.
In Notepad, click File > Open.
Go to the folder: C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\
Change the bottom right of the opening window to: All files (*.*).
Select the “hosts” file and click “Open”.
Add the following line at the bottom:
127.0.0.1 outlookads.live.com
From the menu, click File > Save (or press CTRL + S).
Close the Outlook app and restart the Outlook app. You will now see that the block with advertisements is greyed out, no more advertisements.
I hope this helped you. Thank you for reading!
