If you see the message “There is not enough space available in your OneDrive” in Windows 11, this obviously means that OneDrive does not have enough space.
If you've never upgraded or purchased additional OneDrive, OneDrive has 5 GB of free space available to anyone with a Microsoft account. This means that up to 5 GB of files can be synchronized with Microsoft's OneDrive cloud service.
Any other files you then try to sync will no longer be uploaded to the Cloud and will be reported as sync issues.
There are two things you can do at this point to resolve this issue. You can start by deleting files from OneDrive that you no longer use, or you can upgrade OneDrive by purchasing more space. I will explain both ways in this article.
There is not enough space available in your OneDrive notification in Windows 11
Free up space by deleting files from OneDrive
For starters, you can free up space by deleting synced files. You can do this by logging in to OneDrive with your Microsoft account.
Once logged in, first click on “My files” in the menu on the left.
Then sort the files from “Largest to Smallest” to determine which are the largest files. This allows you to quickly identify which files are taking up the most space in OneDrive.
You can then use this sorting to determine whether you want to delete these large files to free up space.
To do this, select the folder or file and click on the “…” three horizontal dots to the right of the selection. Then click on “Delete” in the menu.
Confirm by clicking “delete”.
You always have a 30-day reflection period after deletion. The file or folder will be in the trash in your OneDrive account for 30 days. Here you can permanently delete it or restore it within 30 days.
After you have deleted the file or folder from OneDrive, you will not immediately see it again in OneDrive on your computer. The deleted file changes must first be processed, which may take a while if you delete many or large files.
After everything is synced and your OneDrive shut down and restarted, you'll see that the low space notification has disappeared.
Purchase space via OneDrive
The second way to remove this insufficient space message is to purchase space.
