Laptop battery no longer charging? Try these tips!

If you are experiencing problems with your laptop battery, the tips in this article can help identify and resolve the problem.

These are tips for every laptop model and can be applied by everyone. It does not matter whether it is a Windows or Mac laptop. In this article we go through a number of standard checks.

You do not read complicated solutions to install drivers and other updates in the BIOS or operating system, among other things, these solutions often do not work.

There are a number of reasons why a laptop no longer fully charges. This could be due to battery overheating or an operating system power screen.

In addition, problems often occur with different charging cables, mainly non-original charging cables and connection of charging cables that no longer work properly.

Laptop battery no longer charging? Try these tips!

Start by turning off the laptop, unplugging the charging cable and waiting for 30 minutes. This allows the battery to cool down.

If you have waited 30 minutes, turn the laptop back on without the charging cable. Wait until the operating system has started up and reconnect the charging cable.

If the laptop no longer receives any power at all and you are therefore unable to turn it on, the internal battery probably broken. A laptop that no longer charges is different from a laptop that no longer turns on with the charging cable connected.

There are a few more things you can check about the cables.

  • Check whether the charging ports on your computer where the charging cable enters are free of dust. If you need to clean them, use a cotton cloth with some alcohol or a can of compressed air to clean the charging port.
  • Are the charging ports still intact? Is nothing loose or is the charging cable moving too loosely in the port? Make sure the charging cable connects properly to the charging port of your laptop to charge.
  • Check the entire charging cable. Is there a kink anywhere in the cable? Is it an official cable? Does the charging cable connect properly to the wall socket or an extension cord?
  • Is the charging cable plugged into a working extension cord or electrical outlet?
  • Make sure that the laptop is connected to the mains via an original charging cable via a socket. Some people charge their laptop via an external screen, often charging the laptop depends on whether the screen is on or not. If the screen is off, the laptop will not charge.

Additionally, you can try the following if your laptop model allows it. Make sure the charging cable is not connected to your laptop. Remove the battery from your laptop and then reinsert it. Then start the laptop. If the laptop boots up, turn off the laptop again. Remove the battery again, then press the on/off button for 10 seconds (press and hold) and then reinsert the battery and connect the charging cable. This way you have drained all remaining power from the laptop. Then switch the laptop back on.

These were standard checks and solutions that specialists use before replacing a laptop battery.

I hope this solves the problem. If it has not been resolved and your laptop still cannot charge, I recommend that you take your laptop to a recognized specialist.
