Open the Google Chrome hidden settings

Google Chrome has hidden settings that are not immediately visible in the menu or in the settings of Chrome itself. It concerns the “Flags” settings.

Chrome Flags are experimental features that are not part of the standard Chrome experience. Some are focused on features that will eventually make their way to the public version of Chrome. Others are intended for developers and will become part of the Chrome Developer Tools when released.

Before you start using or changing Chrome Flags, there are a few things you should be aware of. Once you enable a flag, you must restart your browser. All the same windows and tabs will reopen when you do that.

Flags are not always stable. It may cause Chrome to behave strangely or crash. Flags have not undergone the extensive testing necessary to implement them in the public version of Chrome. So there may be bugs etc. in it. So do not use flags in a work or production environment.

Flags – experimental settings – have not been tested for safety. If you are very security conscious, use a different browser or disable Flags for online banking or other sensitive activities.

Flags are not directly tied to an operating system. So you can open flags on a mobile phone, a Windows computer, a Mac, etc. Oh yes, flags are always written in the English language.

You will see multiple experimental settings in Chrome. You can set this individually to “Default”, “Enabled” or “Disabled”.

Highlight what you click in the Google Chrome browser

At the top right you will see a “Reset all” to reset all flags to default values.

If you are looking for a specific experimental feature, a “flag”, you can perform a search at the top of the “Search flags” window. If you cannot find a specific flag, it may have disappeared. These features change with each new Chrome version. Google can therefore simply remove a flag.

Some flags can be found under “Unavailable”, these are flags that are not suitable for your platform. These flags are all suitable for one specific platform. For example, only for Android devices.

  1. The apps in my Chromebook were initially over the entire screen. Somehow this has changed and they are now in a small format at the bottom left. If possible, I would like to have them back in their original position. That is much clearer.
