iPhones, at the time of writing, only support the iPhone 12 Pro and the iPhone 12 Pro Max recently Apple ProRAW. Apple ProRAW is a RAW format that... Apple itself is designed.
If you take a photo with Apple ProRAW then this is a 12 bit RAW DNG file. This means that you can still use Artificial Intelligence techniques such as night mode etc. on your iPhone. A normal RAW file would just not use smart camera techniques on an iPhone and only show what the camera lens actually shot. Apple ProRAW is a mix of a custom one HEIC photo from your iPhone and an actual RAW photo.
To enable ProRAW on your iPhone, you need an iPhone 12 Pro or an iPhone 12 Pro Max and at least iOS version 14.3.
Apple Enable ProRAW photos on iPhone
Tap the settings icon on your iPhone.
In the iPhone settings, navigate down until you reach the Camera settings. Tap the Camera settings.
Tap the Textures menu to adjust your iPhone's photo textures and Apple Enable ProRAW.
Under Photo Capture, tap Apple ProRAW to enable the DNG structure (ProRAW) on your iPhone. Please note that each photo file takes up a lot more data than HEIC photos, namely around 25MB.
To actually take a photo with Apple ProRAW opens the Camera app. At the top you will find a RAW text with initially a line through it. Every time you want to take a photo in ProRAW, click on the RAW text, the dash will disappear, this indicates that the photo is being shot in Apple ProRAW format.
If you go to the Photos app on your iPhone, you will see your photos with RAW text in front of them. This indicates that the photo was shot in ProRAW format. If you are looking for photo files on your iPhone, photos in ProRAW have the extension DNG and none HEIC or JPG.
