Disable feature update protection in Windows 11

If you update a feature like Trying to install Windows 11 22H2 and the update is not received by Windows Update, then a security hold may be active.

Security Hold prevents a feature update from being installed on your computer because your computer is not compatible with some functionality in that update. In this way, Microsoft protects your computer against problems that may arise after installing a feature update. You will only receive the update once Microsoft or a third party has resolved the problems.

If you still want to receive a feature update, even though problems may arise after installing this update, you can force this. You can make an adjustment in the Windows registry that disables “protection for feature updates”.

Security holds are known compatibility issues that prevent the upgrade from deploying to affected devices until the issue is resolved.

Enabling this policy may give an organization the ability to deploy the feature update to devices for testing, or to deploy the feature update without holding hold.

It is not recommended to perform this on a PC that you use every day. If you think you know what you are doing, you can disable feature update protection to receive future feature updates on your computer.

**This is not a customization that enables feature updates on any PC that is not compatible with Windows 11.
