Open links in the browser instead of the app

When you open a link from Maps in Windows 11, Microsoft Teams or Microsoft to do app, then this website will be linked to the relevant Windows 11 app.

If you do not want to open these website links in the respective app, but only in the browser. For example, because you use a specific browser extension or because the app causes a problem on your computer, you can now open the website link in the browser.

To get website links for the websites:

  • maps.windows.com
  • teams.live.com
  • staging.to-do.microsoft.com
  • staging.to-do.officeppe.com
  • to-do.microsoft.com

To open it in the browser, you need to change settings via the Windows 11 settings. This is how it works.

Open links in the browser instead of the app

Click on the Start button. In the apps click on “Settings“. In the settings, first click on “Apps” and then on “Apps for websites”.

Apps for websites

Change the setting for the relevant website (or app) to “off” to open the link in the browser. Change the setting for the website (or app) to “on” to open the link in that app.
