If you have a Smartwifi modem from Ziggo, your Ziggo modem supports WiFi channel optimization.
Channel optimization aims to improve the performance of your wireless network by automatically choosing the best WiFi channel. WiFi channels are the different frequency bands on which WiFi networks can broadcast. Because there are multiple channels available within the 2.4 GHz en 5 GHz frequency bands, choosing the right channel can help reduce interference with other nearby Wi-Fi networks.
Interference can occur when multiple networks broadcast on the same channel or on overlapping channels. This can lead to reduced network speed and stability. Channel Optimization monitors the environment to determine which channels are least busy and automatically adjusts the modem settings to broadcast on those channels. This process can take place continuously, so that your WiFi network adapts to changes in the environment.
In some cases, channel optimization should be disabled, even if only for testing. For example, if you live or work in an area with little to no Wi-Fi interference from neighboring networks, turning off channel optimization and manually setting a fixed channel can provide better stability. Sometimes automatic channel optimization cannot effectively solve interference problems, especially if there are many networks or if there are certain devices that are interfering. In such cases, manually selecting a channel that is free from interference may work better.
Enable or disable Ziggo WiFi channel optimization
To start, you need to log in to your Ziggo Smartwifi router. This generally works via the browser.
Look up Ziggo modem IP address
Open the browser and go to the IP address of your modem, this is http://192.168.178.1/ by default but may differ in some cases.
You can look up the IP address of your modem as follows if it is not the default IP address.
Open a Command Prompt, in the Command Prompt type: ipconfig. The IP address of your modem is the “Default Gateway” IP address.
