Apple music (Apple Music) change playback options

Apple Music is an app available in macOS, iOS and iPadOS for listening to music. This app provides access to the music streaming service Apple which was introduced in 2015.

In the “Music” app you can adjust various options to tailor music playback to your preferences. This way you can optimize the sound, change sound control, set different audio quality for streaming or downloading and more.

This guide will show you how to use the Apple You can adjust music playback options to your preferences.

Apple change music playback options

Around the Apple To open music options, open the Music app. Click on Music at the top left of the menu and then on “Settings”.

In the settings, click on the “Playback” tab to open the playback options.

You will see several playback options here.

Let it flow into each other

For example, by enabling the “Blend” option, you can have songs blend into each other at the end of a specific number of seconds.

Optimize sound

You can also optimize the sound by enabling the “Optimize sound” option. Both high tones and low tones are then optimized. The sound will be fuller depending on the selected song.

If you enable sound optimization, you can then choose via “low” or “high” how more the song should be optimized. I recommend to try it and then play a well-known music track, check how it sounds.

Noise control

The “Sound Control” option brings music tracks to the same playback level. It happens that older music sometimes sounds softer, or modern music sounds louder. Try enabling this feature Apple music to bring the playback volume to the same level so that you do not have to adjust the volume per song.

Audio quality

In Apple Music, you can enable the “Lossless audio” option in the audio quality options. This function is enabled by default.

What is Lossless Audio? Lossless audio is a type of digital audio that allows for an exact reproduction of the original audio file. This is done using special compression algorithms to preserve the audio data without loss.

This means that no matter how many times the file is played, there will be no deterioration in sound quality. Lossless audio is often used by audiophiles who want the highest possible quality from their audio files. Lossless audio means that you hear exactly the same music as the original music recording.

The disadvantage of lossless audio is that it leads to more data consumption. The quality is higher so it uses more data. To adjust this, you can set the audio quality you want per action “Stream” or “Download”.

You can choose from:

  • High quality (AAC 256 kbps).
  • Lossless (ALAC up to 24-bit/48 kHz).
  • High-resolution lossless (ALAC up to 24-bit/192 kHz).

Dolby Atmos (spatial audio)

You can play supported songs in Dolby Atmos. Dolby Atmos is spatial audio and offers an experience as if you were there yourself. This Dolby Atmos feature is automatically applied to audio that supports it.

However, hardware is also required that can play this. Read which hardware supports this here (Apple support).

You can enable Dolby Atmos Apple Change music to “Automatic”, “Always on” or “Off”.

Video quality

Finally, you can adjust the video quality before streaming or downloading. You can choose to use “Good”, “Better (1080p)” or “Best (up to 4K)” when streaming. When downloading, you can choose from “up to HD”, “up to SD” or “most compatible format”.

I hope this has managed to apply the best settings to Apple Music so you can enjoy the best music. Thank you for reading!

  1. Yes, I sometimes suffer from a humming noise, but that usually comes on much later and sometimes goes away. I just don't know whether it is on in my own music (often YouTube) or somewhere else. How can I find out? JoVo

    1. Hello, by testing it per app, site, device. The goal is to rule out where it isn't coming from. As far as I know, there is no software method, app or anything to check this. You are looking for it in software, it could also be hardware, such as speakers, headphones, built-in speakers. Try to rule out what is not the cause by testing. Good luck!
