Disable Trackpad on Your Mac? That is how it works

If you have an external mouse connected to your Mac via USB or Bluetooth, you can disable the trackpad.

A trackpad is an alternative to a mouse, it works the same way but you can do it with your fingers by dragging and clicking. Some trackpads also support certain gestures, allowing you to perform actions such as scrolling and zooming in or out via certain finger gestures. A trackpad is a standard part of a MacBook and is enabled by default.

You can disable your trackpad on your Mac if it is causing unwanted mouse movements or clicks. Additionally, disabling the trackpad can be useful if you don't want to accidentally touch the trackpad and cause the cursor to move. Another reason could be to save battery power, especially if you are using a laptop.

This article explains how to disable a trackpad via the macOS settings.
