Periodically scan for viruses with Windows Defender Antivirus

In Microsoft Defender Antivirus, also called (“Windows security”), there is a “Periodic scanning” function.

Scan periodically with Windows defender antivirus is a feature that is only available if a third-party antivirus software package is already installed on the computer, for example Bitdefender.

The installed antivirus package will then replace Windows Defender Antivirus and disable Windows Defender Antivirus. To be able to scan with Windows Defender antivirus, there is a periodic scan function.

This periodic scan therefore runs in addition to the existing one antivirus scan another scan with just windows defender antivirus. This way you can discover malware or viruses on your computer that either of these two antivirus might have missed.

If you enable the periodic scan feature, it will continue Windows defender antivirus disabled and only performs a scan when computer resources allow it. So no double virus scan is performed.

Enable periodic scanning

To enable periodic scanning in Windows defender antivirus, click the Start button. In the search box type: virus.

Then click on the “Virus & Threat Protection” result.

Then enable the “Periodic Scan” feature.

Disable periodic scanning

To disable periodic scanning in Windows defender antivirus, click the Start button. In the search box type: virus.

Then click on the “Virus & Threat Protection” result.

Then disable the “Periodic Scan” function.
