View tab memory usage in Google Chrome

If you have a lot of tabs open in Google Chrome, this can slow down your computer. Each opened tab is a separate process and uses part of the RAM memory.

Since version 188, Google has made it easier to view memory usage per tab. This way you can more easily determine how much RAM a specific tab is consuming and close it if necessary.

In the past it was task manager in Google Chrome the best way to determine how much RAM memory is used per tab, this has now become much easier. This is how it works.

To start with, I recommend Update Google Chrome to the latest version. This means you always have access to the latest functions.

Via tab

If you Google Chrome version 118 or higher, then you have access to this new function. If you have multiple tabs open, if you move the mouse over a tab and hold it still for a moment, you can see the memory usage at the bottom of each tab.

Via Google Chrome system settings

Another way is to open the Google Chrome system settings. In the address bar type:

chrome://system/

Then click on the “expand” button to the right of “mem_usage_with_title”. You can now see how much memory is being used per open tab in Google Chrome at that moment.

Through these two ways you can always determine whether a certain tab is slowing down your Chrome browser. The solution is to close this tab.

I hope this helped you. Thank you for reading!
