Look up the IP address of any website. This is how!

Stefan

Your computer needs the IP addresses of other computers on the network to connect to them and transfer data.

Any device that uses the Internet Protocol (IP) connects to the Internet, has an Internet Protocol address (IP address).

The real address of a website is in fact an IP address. Thanks to a service that DNS (Domain Name System), we do not need to remember the numerical addresses (IP addresses) of websites.

Knowing the IP address of a website can be useful for several purposes. It can help you identify a website, set up your own website or connect to it, for example via FTP or SSH.

Look up the IP address of any website

To look up the IP address of a website you need to access the Command Prompt.

The Command Prompt can run tools to identify a website's IP address. This can be done via the “ping” command. This is how it works.

Click on the Start button. In the search window type: Command Prompt and open the result.

In the Command Prompt, type ping with a space and then the name of the website as you know it, for example with www or without www.

ping www.naamvanwebsite.nl

ping command

You will then see a result between [THE IP ADDRESS]. This way you can look up the IP address of a website.

Please note that the IP address you receive back via the above “ping command” is not always the actual IP address of the website. Some websites are behind a Content Delivery Network (CDN) such as CloudFlare.

You can check the IP address by running a WHOIS search on it. You are going to whois.domaintools.com and enter the IP address.

If the IP address is related to the hosting, you will see the hosting company in the result. For example, if you get Cloudflare back or another CDN, the website is behind a CDN to route or block web traffic.

There is a way to still look up the real IP address of a website, even if the website is hidden behind Cloudflare, KeyCDN or another CDN.

Go to Censys search and enter the domain name you want to find details about.

You will immediately see the real IP address of the website and the company where the website is located, the hosting company.
