The Retail Demo Experience (RDX) is specifically designed for retail. This mode gives stores the opportunity to present potential customers with an interactive demo that highlights the capabilities of Windows 11 and the hardware the system runs on.
When you visit a store, you can often see a demo mode active on computers running Windows 11. This mode, usually RDX, is carefully set up to give visitors a realistic view of the performance and functions of the computer in harmony with Windows 11. It is crucial to understand that activating demo mode will erase all user data, accounts and settings. Demo content is then created and shown to the customers.
If you wish to switch from demo mode (RDX) to the normal mode of the computer, for example for sales purposes, this is possible. The demo profile will be deleted, and the system will generally return to its original state, similar to a factory reset.
Enable Retail Demo Experience (RDX) in Windows 11
To get started, open the settings. In the settings, first click on “System” and then on “Activation".
Now click 5 times on the text with the Windows version, not on the logo, specifically on the text.
You will now see a message to enable retail demo mode.
Retail demo mode will be enabled, but it is intended for retail use only.
The PC must be connected to the internet. Switching to retail demo mode will delete all personal content and reset the PC to factory settings.
Click the “Change” button if you want to switch to demo mode in Windows 11.
Download demo content
You can now download the latest demo content and apps by entering the “Retail Access code (RAC)”, “item number” or “Seller's Store ID”.
Advanced configuration
To configure RDX click on the “Advanced Configuration” button.
Auto Shutdown
Because it is a demo mode, you can have the computer shut down automatically. You can configure here when you want the demo computer to shut down automatically. It is important that you checks whether the correct time zone is active.
Administrator settings RDX
Choose how long to run RDX before removing access to the administrator account. After that, you will no longer be able to run scripts or other administrative tasks. If you want permanent administrator access, you cannot create a custom administrator password. Make this password as secure as possible.
Your computer will now restart. The demo content is applied.
After this, Windows 11 is active again, but now in demo mode (RDX) with a fictitious user account. In this case it is “Frank Reuser”, this name changes.
Disable demo mode in Windows 11
To disable demo mode (RDX) again, go to Settings > Activation > Click 5 times on the Windows version text and click Advanced configuration > Remove RDX at the bottom.
The computer will then be restored to factory settings before you enabled RDX.
