How to use System Restore in Windows 11

System Restore in Windows has always remained a useful tool. If your Windows 11 computer experiences problems due to error messages or crashes, you can use System Restore to return your computer to a restore point. This can solve any problems you experienced because you restore the computer to a state where the problems did not exist yet.

Whether you need to fix common errors and bugs, adjust misconfigured settings, or simply repair a broken device, System Restore works in every situation. In this article, you will learn how to use System Restore in Windows 11.

System restore in Windows 11

System Restore is a recovery program developed by Microsoft that allows users to restore their device to a previous state and undo all recent changes.

System Restore restores the Windows environment by restoring all settings and files that were stored in the restore point. Each time a new restore point is created, the System Restore utility takes a snapshot of all settings, files, and registry keys, and saves all this information as a “restore point.” So when something goes wrong with your device, you can use the System Restore feature to revert to a previous restore point.

Enable System Restore in Windows 11

System restore is disabled by default. You must therefore enable it yourself to be able to create restore points.

Click on the magnifying glass. In the search box type: recovery. Click Create a restore point.

Restore point settings

Click on the tab: Native Security. Then click on the Configure button. Click on “Enable System Protection” and click Apply.

  1. Good evening, I am working with Windows 11, I can still open my laptop, but I keep getting a "Critical error" message, "Your Start menu is not working, the next time you log in an attempt will be made to fix this" and "Log out now"
Already tried but without result. What did I do wrong my old programs disappeared (can't open emails) I also got other new programs ??

    Greetings

    1. Hello, I would restore Windows 11 as described in this article. I have no idea why this happened, it doesn't just happen. You can figure it out, but in most cases, repair is the quickest and easiest option.
      Success!

  2. Hi, I want to enter a recovery time myself, but I don't see that anywhere. Have windows 11.
The PC creates this itself every time

    1. Hello, in this instruction (this article) you will read how to create a restore point. This allows you to decide when you create a restore point. Windows also creates them itself when you enable system restore. It's not entirely clear what you mean by recovery time, I suspect a fixed time? Then you would have to create a new task via the task scheduler and script the creation of a restore point. Good luck!

  3. I made a mistake while uninstalling a program.(PSP)
    Then reinstalled the program.
Some Filters no longer want to work—or psps shuts down
Filter Meister—run-time exception Memery access violation
Display exception details also shows numbers e.g. ds=oxoo2B —fs 0x0053.
    I also lost several folders.
System restore - not possible - everything I have restored so far comes back.
Do you have a solution for me???
    work with windows 11
    Kind regards, Mieke

    1. Sorry, unfortunately not. Unfortunately, I cannot provide information to help you troubleshoot PSP (Paint Shop Pro) issues and retrieve files or backups. You have to make do with the standard recovery functionality in Windows. If you don't have a backup, there's little to restore 🙁
Regarding the Paint Shop Pro filter error messages, maybe this will help: https://forum.corel.com/viewtopic.php?t=59377

  4. Helped to handle restore points.
    Question: Windows 11;
    – on the internet some sites display very quickly (the morning, the standard, YouTube, mail yahoo, etc)
    – Others cannot be taken or only after one to 5 minutes (the time, Microsoft store, virus scanners, Redeem Microsoft, Mozilla dictionary, etc.
    – everything works fine on the Mac

Greetings and thanks for your efforts

    Guy

    1. Hello, most of what you mention

      – Others cannot be taken or only after one to 5 minutes (the time, microsoft store, virus scanners, redeem microsoft, dictionary mozilla, etc.

are apps, at least that's how I read it. Of course they take longer. I find it difficult if not impossible to come up with a solution with this information. Sorry, greetings Stefan.
