Quickly share a file or folder via NitroShare in Windows 11 or 10

We all want to quickly, and above all, easily create a file or can share folder over a local network to another computer. To make sharing files or folders easy, you can use Nitroshare.

NitroShare is a free, simple, open-source app designed to simplify file sharing between devices on the same network, whether those devices are running Windows, macOS, or Linux. The goal of NitroShare is to simplify the process of file sharing between different operating systems, something that can traditionally be complex due to differences in file systems, network protocols and user permissions.

So it is not necessary to share folders or advanced network settings such as enable file and printer sharing. After installation, you can immediately start sharing files or folders over the local network. Both the sender and the receiving computer must are on the same WiFi or local Ethernet network. Both computers must also be able to find each other on the network.

NitroShare is often used in environments where files need to be shared quickly and easily between computers without having to worry about the specific details of network configurations, file system compatibility, or user permissions. It is especially useful in small office or home networks where users want to share files between personal computers and laptops running different operating systems. There is therefore no limitation on the size of the file or folder to be sent or received.

In the settings you will find advanced options such as:

  • Specify your port numbers to manage UDP and TCP connections for NitroShare. You can also set the multicast address for network broadcasts to find devices easily. Choose your preference between multicast and broadcast for your network communications.
  • Limit the size of each file transfer and determine the number of simultaneous transfers you allow. Adjust the buffer size to optimize the efficiency of your file transfers.
  • Give your device a recognizable name and arrange its discoverability on the network. Decide whether you want NitroShare to start automatically with your computer and whether you want to use system notifications to stay informed about transfer progress.
  • For added security, you can choose to encrypt your file transfers. Enable logging for a detailed overview of your activities within NitroShare.
