Manage Windows via Multitasking in Windows 11

Multitasking settings are available in Windows 11. These are settings that make it easier to multitask when, for example, you have multiple monitors connected or use multiple virtual desktops.

When you use different desktops, the open windows are not displayed on the desktop taskbar on the current desktop. All desktops have their own taskbar with open windows.

You can customize Windows 11 so that all tabs are displayed on the active desktop. You can also ensure that when you press ALT + TAB to quickly switch between windows, all active windows on the other desktops are also displayed. You can adjust all this in the multitasking settings, just like 'window title bar shake'.

Manage Windows via Multitasking in Windows 11

Right-click on the Start button. Then click on “Settings” in the menu. In the settings, click on “System” on the left and then on “Multitasking”.

Open the “Desktops” settings to change the multitasking features here. You will see two functions here:

Show all open windows on the taskbar.

The default setting is 'Only on the desktop I use'. This setting means that any open windows you have open on multiple desktops will only be visible on the taskbar of the desktop you currently have open.

You can change this to 'On all desktops'. This means that all windows, regardless of which desktop the window is open on, will be visible on the desktop taskbar you currently have open. So there is no longer any distinction as to which window belongs to which desktop and everything is displayed in the taskbar.
