RAM memory is part of every PC. RAM memory helps the computer store volatile information in memory so that it does not have to be read from the hard drive. Reading information from a hard drive is always slower than from RAM memory.
Some Windows 11 or Windows 10 users experience that their computer runs slowly and therefore want RAM geheugen add to the physical computer hardware. Adding RAM requires knowing what type of RAM is in the computer.
There are different types of RAM memory. The most common RAM type at the moment is DRAM. DRAM stands for Dynamic Random Access Memory. It is a type of RAM that allows each bit of data to be stored in a separate capacitor within a specific integrated circuit. Dynamic RAM is a standard computer memory of many modern desktop computers.
Of the DRAM type, there are the most common sub-types such as DDR (Double Data Rate), DDR2, DDR3 and DDR4 RAM memory. If you look up the type of RAM memory, you are most likely looking for the type of DDR RAM memory.
What type of RAM memory is in my Windows computer?
If you only want to see the speed of the RAM memory and the number of slots still available for RAM memory, you can use task management.
Look up RAM Memory information in Windows via task manager
Right-click on the Start button. Then click on Task Manager in the menu.
Click on the “Performance” tab and click on memory on the left. You will now see the memory information.
On the far right side you will see the available memory in Gigabytes. If you look at the bottom right you will see the memory speed, the slots used, the form factor and reserved for hardware.
In the bottom center you will see the amount of memory currently in use of the total, you will see it between the brackets compressed memory.
Look up RAM memory type in Windows via CPU-Z
In task manager you do not see the type of RAM memory that is present as hardware in your PC. For this you need third-party software that can display this information. This is the CPU-Z software.
Open the CPU-Z app and click on the “Memory” tab. In the “type” field you will see the type of RAM memory that is in your computer. Here you will also see the total number of GB of RAM available in “Size”.
I hope this helped you. Thank you for reading!
