De Xbox gaming bar is an app to record screenshot and videos in games. In addition, the Xbox game bar provides all kinds of useful information about the performance of your computer system in the game, such as the frames per second of the video card, the use of the CPU and more.
If you are a gamer who spends a lot of time screenshots and video recording snippets and don't want to use third-party software, then the Xbox Game Bar is a pretty handy app or feature.
However, if you don't use the Xbox game bar or don't want it for any reason, you can uninstall the app.
It is not possible to remove the Xbox game bar via the settings. You need to remove the Xbox game bar via special commands to make it a standard part of Windows 11 and Windows 10. This is how it works.
Remove Xbox Game bar from Windows 11 or Windows 10
Remove Xbox game bar from Windows 11
Right-click on the Start button. Click Windows Terminal (Admin) in the menu.
Copy and paste the following line into the window:
Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay | Remove-AppxPackage
You will temporarily see a blue window with some code, then the Xbox game bar will be removed.

I hope this helped you. Thank you for reading!
Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay | Remove-AppxPackage stuck nothing happens no blue screen or anything else.
Hello, this takes a very short time on faster computers. I just tested the above, it still works. Otherwise, check in the installed apps whether Xbox Game bar is still there, if not, it has been removed.
Success!
Thank you very much for this very useful tip, I discovered a few things when starting Windows 10
The command you specify to remove the Xbox Game Bar
“Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay | Remove-AppxPackage”
gives me the answer (in “Command prompt administrator”):
“Get-AppxPackage' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file”.
I am using Windows 10 (x64) with all updates. I have already found your solution for removing Xbox Game Bar on several sites. Why wouldn't it work for me?
Yours faithfully,
Hans Verweij.
Hello, the fact that “Get-AppxPackage” is not recognized is because you have opened a Command Prompt. This command only works in PowerShell as mentioned in the article 🙂
Greetings, Stefan
I have a version 10.0
and the message I get is Get_AppxPackage is not recognized as a in- / external command, exe or batch
Hello, make sure you Used PowerShell to run the command, no Command Prompt. Also, the command is “Get-AppxPackage”, not “Get_AppxPackage”. You will need all the permissions in Windows 10 to run this, make sure you are using an administrator account in Windows.
Good luck! Greetings, Stefan
Hi, the tip for uninstalling the XBOX app does not work. When I click on “Windows Terminal (administrator)” with the left mouse button in the start menu, I get the following message: Cannot find the wt.exe file.
Do you have a solution for me?
Thanks in advance,
Bert Sperber
Hello, yes, there is definitely a solution. It is strange that wt.exe is not found, it is a standard part of Windows 11. Make sure that you are a full administrator of the computer.
Click on the magnifying glass in the taskbar and search for powershell. Right-click on the “Windows PowerShell” result and click “Run as Administrator”.
Copy and paste:
Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.XboxGamingOverlay | Remove-AppxPackage
in the Powershell window and press the enter key. The Xbox game bar will now be removed.Success!
Greetings, Stefan
Hi Stefan, thank you for your efforts and tips, but unfortunately Xbox remains present after I followed your instructions.
Unfortunately.
Greetings Bert.
Hello, I just tested it in Windows 11 as well as in Windows 10. It still works fine. I suspect you are doing something wrong somewhere.
I advise you to read carefully. It concerns the XBOX GAME BAR. Not about the other Xbox apps.
Greetings, Stefan
