Every so often, Microsoft releases new updates to Windows 10. Where these updates solve problems or introduce new functionality, sometimes the PC does not get any faster.
There are also many people who report problems after installing updates. The most common complaint is that the computer can become slower. There are some changes you can make to speed up Windows 10 that has become slower after an update.
If Windows 10 is slow after an update, this does not always have to be due to the specific update. It is therefore not recommended to use the update. Updates often fix problems and provide new functionality. This guide provides generic solutions to speed up Windows 10 and troubleshoot problems.
Windows 10 slow after update
I have listed the most effective solutions to make the computer faster. There are many tips on the internet that do nothing at all or should not be carried out by the average PC user. Anyone can safely perform these tips without any problems.
Repair Windows 10 with SFC and DISM
The first thing you should do in a system repair is via SFC (System File Checker) and then with DISM (Deployment Image Servicing and Management). These tools can automatically fix problems in Windows and can be performed safely.
Click on search in the taskbar, search for “Command Prompt”. Right click on Command Prompt and click “Run as administrator”".
In the Command Prompt window type:
sfc /scannow
Your computer will now be searched for missing or erroneous system files. If these files are detected, Windows will delete these files itself produce.
Once SFC is done, I recommend running DISM. In the same Command Prompt window type:
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
DISM performs cleanup and recovery operations on the running operating system. Even if problems are detected in the operating system via DISM based on the “online image”, they will be repaired automatically.
Disable Windows 10 startup apps
To make your computer start up faster, it is advisable to disable the apps that Windows starts up. By thoroughly checking which apps you want to load or not load when you start your computer, you will make your computer faster.
Right-click on the taskbar. In the menu click on “task management“. In the task manager, click on “more details” and then on the “Startup” tab.
Here you will see all the apps that Windows 10 starts when you log in to Windows. In the “status” column you can see whether the app is “enabled”. If you have determined that the app has no added value to be started when logging in to Windows, then right-click on this app and click “disable”.
The “influence on startup” table shows the impact of the process on starting Windows. Even if the influence is “little” or “none” and you are not using the app, still disable it.
Disable Windows 10 background apps
Which also has a strong impact on being a slow Windows 10 computer background apps or processes. These are apps that are active in the background in Windows, but are not actually used or are hardly used.
As you install more apps, the list of background apps will also increase significantly. It is advisable to go through this list of apps and disable unnecessary background apps where necessary.
Open settings. In the settings click on “privacy”. In the privacy settings In the “app permissions” click on “background apps”.
You can now decide to disable all background apps by changing the “Allow apps to run in the background” setting to “off”.
If you prefer to determine per app which may or may not run in the background, you can change the setting in the list of apps to “on” or “off” per app.
The app that you disable as a background app will no longer be able to send notifications, update itself or receive data. Take this into account when choosing to disable or enable the background app.
