In Windows 11 you can just like in previous Windows versions change the background. Changing the wallpaper helps to give a personal touch to Windows 11.
After installing Windows 11, a standard Microsoft wallpaper is displayed. You can adjust this background to your liking. You can choose from one specific theme with a solid background, an image as a background, a solid color as a background, or an image slideshow.
In addition to these standard backgrounds, you can also choose one set moving (live) wallpaper, Or random image from the Bing search engine.
This article shows you how to customize the background in Windows 11 to your liking.
Customize wallpaper in Windows 11
To adjust the background you need to open the settings. Right-click on the Start button. Then click Settings in the menu.
In the left menu click on “Personal settings” and then in the right part on “Wallpaper”.
You can customize the wallpaper in Windows 11 to your personal preference. There are three different background options to choose from. You can choose from Image, Solid Color and Slideshow.
Image
Once you have selected the background image you can choose from a range of standard “recent images”. These are images that Windows 11 recently used. By clicking on this recent image you immediately set this image as a new background.
To set a photo as your own wallpaper, click the “Browse photos” button next to “Choose a photo”.
The images folder opens, after which you can use your own photo as a wallpaper setup in Windows 11. You can then adjust the image to fit your desktop by choosing one of the following options: fill, spread, side by side, or across multiple screens.
You can optionally set an additional color as a background for the photo background by selecting the “customize” option.
solid color
If you prefer not to set an image as a background, you can also choose from a palette of solid colors. The entire Windows 11 desktop background will then be filled with this solid color.
There are standard solid colors to choose from. However, by clicking the “Show Colors” button you can select a color yourself, add it and set it as your desktop background.
Slideshow
Finally, there is the slideshow background. This is a wallpaper with several images that are each displayed as a desktop background after a time interval.
First you need to select a folder containing all the images or photos. You can then indicate how many minutes, hours or days this slideshow should change images. If you want to display the order of the images in random order, you can still enable this option.
A slideshow consumes quite a bit of battery. If the laptop is not connected to the mains, you can still display the slideshow as a background. However, this only happens if you enable this option.
Additionally, you can adjust the images from the slideshow. You can adjust this by indicating the desired size and you can also adjust the background color that matches the series of slideshow images.
Additionally you can use the adjust colors in Windows 11 or a contrast theme Selecting. I hope this helped you. Thank you for reading!
Good afternoon 🙂
I have accidentally lost all the icons on my desktop... how can I get them back please? (bank, selected websites, airport, etc)
Greetings, mmm
Hello, generally once these desktop icons are deleted you cannot get them back (check the recycle bin). In some cases, a restore point is created by your computer. You can see if there is a restore point available from before the date they were deleted.
In the article below, in the chapter 'Restore restore point', you can check whether a restore point can be restored. Please note that if you restore from a restore point you will lose all data as it is currently available on your computer. If available, this restores the computer to the way it was on that date. Unsure? Then don't do it.

My question is; did you delete them or did they disappear in some other way?
Success!
Thanks for your response,
I didn't delete them, they disappeared because I did a new background :-((
Hello, you may have changed a theme. It depends on how you changed the background. You could check if the old theme is there:
https://www.pc-tips.info/tips/windows-tips/thema-wijzigen-in-windows-11/
Then change the theme back. Hopefully this brings back the desktop icons.
Success!
I still haven't succeeded, sniff sniff. My desktop is still solid blue, and when I go to SETTINGS I find my Desktop, they are all there.
BUT when I want to repeat a shortcut on my desktop, the PC says that it already exists... but invisible on the desktop...
Check the desktop icons:
Right-click on an empty area of your desktop.
Go to “View” and make sure “Show desktop icons” is checked. This should make all shortcuts and icons on your desktop visible again.
Unfortunately, I don't have any other tips. Good luck!
Response by email:
“There they are back! How happy I am.
Thank you very much!
Fantastic !"
Dissolved.
Well I definitely have a thank you. I have had Windows 10 for years, but because it gave up the ghost I had to buy a new one and it has Windows 11 on it. I can't find a lot of things. So thanks again for the help.
If I did nothing for a while in Windows 10, I received my custom photos in slide order. Now in Windows 11 the screen goes black and I have to log in again. Can't it be done the Windows 10 way?
Hello, in the following article you can read how to disable the login screen when waking your Windows 11 computer by selecting the option “show login screen on resume” to turn off. You can also set a slideshow as a screen saver.

Success!
I would like to see the various background photos with a reference to what it is, where it comes from, etc. and which you can rate with like/dislike using a heart as the home screen.
Hello, this is the lock screen. To set this up, change the lock screen to “Windows Spotlight”.

Success!
I would like to remove a few backgrounds because they are of poor quality, I just looked for the option but couldn't find it. maybe you know the solution?
Hello, these are photos or custom wallpapers. You can remove this by first setting the desired background and then deleting the photo file or image file. The location for these types of files depends on where you saved this wallpaper. In most cases this concerns the “Images” folder in the documents.
Success!
How do I change the background from black to light in my folders, explorer, documents and outlook.
I changed the desktop once and put it back again, but now the background remains black.
Hello, sounds like you are setting a dark theme. You can select a light theme via the theme settings:

If you have used third-party software in the past, adjust it accordingly. Good luck! Greetings, Stefan
